Community Focus
Supporting communities across Banksia Ward, South Oakleigh and Clayton
Community Focus
Banksia Ward is made up of diverse, active communities, each with its own character, strengths, and challenges. South Oakleigh and Clayton, in particular, are places where people care deeply about their neighbourhoods and about each other.
My focus as a councillor is to make sure these communities are listened to, represented fairly, and supported in practical ways. Local government works best when decisions are informed by lived experience and when all parts of Monash are given equal consideration.
Equal representation across Monash
South Oakleigh and Clayton are vibrant, growing areas, yet they can be overlooked when it comes to attention, investment, or long-term planning. I believe every part of Monash deserves a strong voice at the table.
I’m committed to advocating for balanced representation across the city and to raising issues that matter locally, whether that’s infrastructure, services, or everyday amenity. This means listening carefully to residents and making sure local concerns are reflected in council discussions and decisions.
Supporting local business and local jobs
Local businesses are central to the life of our suburbs. They create jobs, bring people together, and give neighbourhoods their identity.
I want to see council working constructively with small and medium businesses, reducing unnecessary barriers, and creating conditions where local enterprise can grow. Supporting local business means supporting the broader community, from employment opportunities to vibrant local centres.
Strengthening community groups and neighbourhood networks
Community groups, volunteers, and local organisations play a vital role in connecting people and supporting those who need it most. Many of these groups operate quietly, with limited resources, yet their impact is significant.
I believe council should actively support community organisations by making processes clearer, reducing red tape where possible, and ensuring groups have access to the facilities and support they need to continue their work.
Local sport and recreation as community infrastructure
Sporting clubs and recreational spaces are more than just places to exercise. They are social hubs, places where friendships are formed, and where people of all ages and backgrounds come together.
I’m particularly passionate about ensuring local sporting clubs in Banksia Ward, including those in South Oakleigh and Clayton, have access to safe, well-maintained facilities. Investing in sport and recreation is an investment in community health, inclusion, and connection.
A practical, community-led approach
My approach to community focus is grounded in listening, transparency, and practical action. I aim to stay connected with residents, community leaders, and local organisations to understand what’s working, what isn’t, and where council can play a more effective role.
Strong communities don’t happen by accident. They’re built through ongoing care, fair representation, and a willingness to engage openly. That’s the approach I bring to my work as a councillor for Banksia Ward.
